Hello,
First time i write to the devel list, and I would like to discuss with you about traceability of data when downloading data as ShapeFile in Geoserver. I had several requests to make metadata info part of the WFS Shapefile zip output. I’ve seen there were some related discussions on the list in the past.
On my side, i’ve been implementing some patch for a Geoserver 2.2. The idea was to enrich the shapefile zip output with a metadatalinks text file that lists the different metadataURLs specified for the layer. Since we assume a layer can have multiple associated metadata URLs (some times pointing to a HTML page), we didn’t add the metadata themselves to the output shape-zip, but just add the list of metadata links in a text file as follows:
type metadataType content
text/xml ISO19115:2003 http://www.myorg.org/metadata1
text/html ISO19115:2003 http://www.myorg.org/metadata2
I’m wondering if this could be of interest for the Geoserver community. If yes, I would be glad to contribute to this.
Looking forward to your comments / ideas
Cheers
