[Geoserver-devel] Should we install a CLA bot to help manage CLAs in PRs?

I noticed GeoNode runs a CLA Bot that automatically checks if people providing PRs have signed the CLA, is it worth us trying something like it? Other than keeping the list of signers uptodate it doesn’t look too burdensome.

See https://github.com/apps/cla-bot for more info

Hi Ian,

I welcome anything that helps automate and takes chores off our hands.
I had a very quick look at it, see there is a configuration file that allows to check
if a named github user has signed the CLA (useful), see no way to handle organizations,
or to point to a CLA and how one is supposed to tell the bot something is signed.

I have the feeling that the bot just checks a whitelist, so the signing process would
still be manual? Better than nothing I reckon

Cheers

Ian:

We did look at this some time ago, cannot remember all the details.

  • approach works best with a hidden repository so we can respect folks privacy.
  • if you wanted to pursue this we could setup a private osgeo repository and set up the osgeo secretary with the tooling to manage.
