Hi,
as far as I can tell there is a number of build failures on Travis that are file system related, and others
that might be related to concurrent load in the build environment (just a guess).
Build have just not been very reliable lately.
I was checking our options and found this table:

We are on the container based trusty environment right now. I was wondering, has anyone tried already
the sudo enabled one instead?
As far as I can tell from the table, it would give us more memory, more disk space, a “real” file system
instead of a user space one, at the price of higher startup time and probably less CPU available.
Worth a try, to see if we can get more stable builds?

NB: Trying the sudo enabled one is cheap since Travis automatically builds branches*. For GeoMesa, we’ve had various Travis issues, and we fooled around with branches to try out various things. Using the sudo-enabled boxes definitely helped…
After that… we found that tweaking Maven+memory parameters and pulling other tricks helped.

Might be worth trying. Two risks are (1) builds timing out because of reduced CPU resources ("bursted" CPU happens only rarely and often much less is available) and dependency download time, and (2) problems installing packages.
Do you know if the Maven repo is still cached on sudo enabled workers?

It's a one liner, let's see how it goes
