I've added SLD Schema validation to geoserver. If you click on the
"Fully Validate against the SLD schema" checkbox, your .sld file will
be checked against the schema.
I noticed that every single one of the sample .sld files in geoserver
had several "issues". I've fixed them all (whew - that was a lot of
work).
I've included a picture of what a schema error looks like. I've tried
to make it as friendly as possible so you can quickly find and fix your
errors. There's also a little help page where I gave a hints to common
problems (its a wiki, so you can add your own!).
