[Geoserver-devel] time to merge spring-4-update

The spring-4-update branch from gwc and geoserver finished up last week, based on today’s meeting (and email geofence discussion) I would like to merge now and begin manual testing.

Andrea asked that I delay the beta2 release until after geofence is ready. Please confirm and I can update the spring 4 upgrade schedule.

Thanks Ian / Simone - I know it is “going according to plan” but I did not want to disrupt without notice.

Niels I noticed a pull request 1540 which has some security refactoring, this will probably need to be redone after the merge.

Thanks, Jody. I see you have just merged the Spring 4 branch on master. Jenkins on ares is running.

I am also running a local build with OpenJDK 8.

The only way out is through!

Kind regards,
Ben.

Jenkins on ares passed as did my local build and an app-schema-online test against postgis (the latter is still running on ares).

I have kicked the nightly build on ares Jenkins to see if community modules compile and assembly succeeds. I have also kicked cite tests.

I am also compiling community modules locally (-DskipTests build) and will likewise test assembly.

I will not switch Maven to 3.3.9 on ares Jenkins until the dust settles.

Kind regards,
Ben.

Local compile and assembly (and community assembly) all passed.

[WARNING] The POM for no.ecc.vectortile:java-vector-tile:jar:1.0.5 is missing, no dependency information available

I think this is the same missing dependency Andrea reported in the 2.8.3 release.

Jody, does this request still hold? Should we be adding notes on the Spring 4 Upgrade wiki page or collating bugs on a new page? Or should we start using Jira? (I concur with your view that it is a bit early for Jira.):
https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/wiki/Spring-4-Upgrade

If we leave that page for schedule and work assignment, we could have another page for a laundry list of known issues.

A buglet:

Login fails from the layer preview page (in Jetty from Eclipse). I am pretty sure that this failed *before* the Spring 4 upgrade but I am sure that we want to fix this while fixing all the /login and /logout endpoints for Spring 4 compatibility:

HTTP ERROR 404
Problem accessing /geoserver/web/wicket/j_spring_security_check. Reason:

Let me try using the same wiki page (using the headings we have or adding
new headings to group issues).

Kind regards,

I added your buglet, the page is pretty busy, if we break out a new page

it would have to be for manual testing, and issues (since separating the
two seems madness).

Okay here is what I am going to do, send an email for each buglet, and link
to the email thread from the wiki page - that way we get the discussion and
a list so we know when we are done.

What we really want is the discussion for fixing and sharing which approach
to a fix was successful. For this to work we will need to try for an email
thread per buglet.
