I’m wondering if it’s time to just remove the script modules. They have been kicked out of the build
for a while now, and no one seems to be working on them anymore. The documentation ends up confusing people.
Time to drop the axe on the module?

I’ve had to remove them from my local IDE for some time as they don’t build (at least I think that was why).

They’ve been broken for a quite a while now, and no one’s stepped up yet, so yes, I agree it makes sense to remove them outright. +1.
Although with how much Google likes holding on to old documentation, I doubt that’ll do much to fix the “people getting confused” problem.

I wonder if we can add a this version is out of date, see here for the current stable release type header, like postgis does?

Interesting observation, it made me think about something Emanuele told me: that Google keeps on linking to pages that should
not be there anymore (their source rst has been moved), but they actually are still there.
It’s easy to find an example:
https://docs.geoserver.org/latest/en/user/community/geofence-server/tutorial.html
Check the URL and the version in the page, url says latest, the page says GeoServer 2.14.x
Emanuele was speculating that maybe the publishing copies over new files, but is not deleting the old ones,
leaving these ghost pages around.
If we can get rid of them, maybe that would solve/lessen the confusion
