I have a question.
I have a shape that represents roads. And i set it's style to
"simple_roads". But when i put this shape on the map (in uDig) it gets
rendered by some default uDig style. Why doesn't it get rendered with the
style i assigned to it?

How are you requesting it in uDig? With WFS or WMS, or are you just viewing the same shape? WFS says nothing about style, so uDig's right to just make its own style. You should be able to import the same style though, by using the SLD.
