I am using geoserver 1.7.4 .I installed it on my desktop it works fine but when I installed it on server , i configured it on port 1979
then i am unable to access it from outside.I am using following url:

Most likely a firewall issue, or some other sort of network issue. It is also probably a good idea to verify that there are no port conflicts (ie no other services running on that port), and that geoserver actually starts up.

I am sorry... i can't really offer that much more help. This is an issue with your specific network setup, and not really a geoserver problem. Maybe some of the people on this list who have more experience adminstrating geoserver can help more.
