[Geoserver-devel] Unsupported Extension Request for MonitorDAO

As part of the Google Summer of Code, through LocationTech, my student (Joao) has extended the MonitorDAO to write Map Request Data as Simple Features to a Data Store. The intent is to perform geo-spatial analytics on map requests, such trending regions of interest. The design does not assume the Data Store has been configured with GeoServer, as long as the Data Store Factory is resolved through the SPI. A UI component (Wicket) permits an administrator to configure the extension with a configured Data Store.

It would be nice to add to this project to an unsupported (or, eventually, supported) extension.

Ah, interesting. To add community modules, you just need to ask, and we
give you commit access (after the contribution agreement to OSGeo are
signed).
For supported land, well, that requires a bit more effort and a stable
mantainer for the module... would that be you, your student, or you were
hoping
someone else to jump in?

I also believe the packages should be switched to org.geoserver, but I'm
not actually sure that's a strict requirement, we just don't
have anything outside org.geoserver.

Cheers
Andrea

I will be the stable maintainer.

My student is invested in improving the UI portion. We had to wrap it up quickly in the interest of the GSoC time constraints.

Changing the package name is fine.

I will submit signed agreement as documented here (https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openlayers/cla/master/icla.txt).

Thanks.

Makes sense. For clarity, are you recommending a fork of geoserver, adding this extension under the ‘extension’ structure? Other than structural concerns, I can also assume application of the ‘Eclipse’ formatter for Java and XML.

Open to ideas for an extension folder name (not gsmonitor).

The separation between ‘web’ and ‘core’ was used to clearly separate one as an SPI implementer of the monitor, the other a Wicket. They are not co-dependent. Although, I could easily keep them under one project folder, constructing different build artifacts. Thoughts?

Using the extension name as ds for this discussion, the folder structure: extension/monitor/ds

One glaring deficiency in the tool is that lack of internationalization. The H2 extension has a support for quite a few European based languages. Do you see this as something that needs addressing prior to integration?

That agreement is for open layers, this is the geoserver project.

I would slot the project in here: https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/tree/master/src/community

Other community modules contain a core and web split:

Or under a single directory:
