[Geoserver-devel] What is the "collapse" tab supposed to do in the CSS demo?

Hi,
kicking a bit the CSS demo, there is a “collapse” tab that contains just an empty panel… do you know what is that supposed to do, or why it’s there?
(see attached screenshot)

Cheers
Andrea

Well, the whole UI is a little experimental, I’m definitely not opposed to rearranging. But:

  • Collapse has no content, this is so we have a default that doesn’t do anything (map and data may be computationally intensive, CSS reference makes your browser reach out to the internet. The generated sld tab might be a good default instead.

  • Map shows a live-updating openlayers map of the data being styled.

  • Data shows the attributes with some statistics (Andrea, you’ve already correctly noted that it might be useful to have the attribute names and types without the min/max columns which can be slow to compute.)

  • Generated SLD shows the SLD equivalent of the CSS, this is what GeoServer actually uses for map rendering.

  • CSS reference just embeds the CSS page from the user manual. It’s a live link to docs.geoserver.org, but it might make sense to drop it or replace it with something self-hosted.

Yep, I agree that would be better. Right now one might end up thinking
something is not working.

About the SLD viewer, how about adding
http://softwaremaniacs.org/soft/highlight/en/ in the mix to
increase its readability?

* Map shows a live-updating openlayers map of the data being styled.

* Data shows the attributes with some statistics (Andrea, you've already

I was thinking that we could add a button to compute them, and see if we
can stick them into the FeatureTypeInfo metadata map so that
they get remembered (pressing again the button would update them).

* Generated SLD shows the SLD equivalent of the CSS, this is what
GeoServer actually uses for map rendering.

Right. For the moment I'll just re-link it to latest docs, self hosted
would be better, but I don't see how to
make it work right now, given that the RST requires a different build
tooling and it's outside of the normal build
