[Geoserver-devel] When should we schedule 2.10 release?

The release schedule has GeoServer 2.10 being released on Tuesday October 18th.

With the 2.10-RC being released October 12th we have not yet had any feedback (other then the preflight testing thanks!). We also lack a volunteer to make the release.

Before we nail down a release date, can I ask if anyone a short-term issue they expect to fix prior to release?

We have three issues reported against 2.10-RC:

Going through our testing priority:

Style Editor
The style editor lists has some improvement requests (preview reloads on save, reduce vertical space, run validate when clicking apply) along with actual issues (renaming with validation failure duplicates style, auto detect legend params, not serializable exception, exception previewing wms layer, exception previewing unreachable layer).

CSS Extension

Docs are available for nested rules and rendering transform support.

Double check any deployments using WMS Cascade

Dave Blasby I am confident you tested the changes here, I still would like confirmation from existing deployments of WMS cascade that they are unaffected by the GEOT-5514 fix.

Pull request for master:
https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/pull/1885

Once merged (and there are still some details to be confirmed), this should be a candidate for immediate backport to 2.10.x (for inclusion in 2.10.0) and 2.9.x. This one really needs to be fixed for 2.10.0.

- GEOS-7779 WCS scaling request fails if schemaLocation includes scaling
schema <https://osgeo-org.atlassian.net/browse/GEOS-7779>

This is super-low-priority, affecting only schema-validation fanatics (i.e. Ben), with an easy workaround (Don't Do That Then). This will not be fixed for 2.10.0 and can be safely ignored.

Kind regards,

Should we limit ourselves to tickets reported against the RC? Why not check
also the unresolved ones reported against 10-beta and 10-M0?

We should not limit ourselves, I was focused on issues that had been reported against the RC (since that is why we put it out there - for feedback).

Andrea and Ben do you have any opinion, or availability, to due the release tomorrow? Or should we choose a new date in the geoserver meeting.

-1 on releasing tomorrow, regardless of the availability of a volunteer,
the new style page is still too fragile (see the latest bug report
we got today, one mis-configured layer and you cannot edit style
associations anymore... and there are the others too we already knew about,
I'm specifically referring to the bug types).

It seems that the style page switch was made without enough resources
backing it to complete the job, as a core page it should not be that easy
to
make it blow. I can try to help a bit during the next weekend, maybe pick a
ticket. Anyone else?

I think wait at least a week, possibly two, for testing. Discuss at the meeting (at my 04:30, so my apologies for this one).
