[Geoserver-devel] wicket7 branch merge - end of day - please respond

Quick email - sprint is going really well (everyone worked last night to test all the extensions, and the majority of the community modules). See the spreadsheet for live update. We are down to mop up work today, writing a blog post thanking sponsors, updating screen snaps in docs.

Please Respond: I would like to ask for a +1 from PSC and community members on merging at end of day. This will allow nightly builds to be used for subsequent community testing and let the blog post link to fresh new docs on our website.

Andrea made a build last night that everyone can try out - this represents the current state of the branch: http://demo.geo-solutions.it/share/wicket7-cs/m2

The JDBC/LDAP Authentication pages have not yet been tested. If anyone has an appropriate environment configured, your help would be greatly appreciated for a quick smoke test.

There are also a number of community modules that have not been tested due to a lack ofan appropriate environment. While these do not block the merge, it would be nice to get them tested:

The SOLR Community Module has not been tested. If anyone has an appropriate environment configured, your help would be greatly appreciated for a quick smoke test.

The Key Authentication Community Module has not yet been tested. If anyone has an appropriate environment configured, your help would be greatly appreciated for a quick smoke test.

The Aggregating DataStore Community Module has not yet been tested. If anyone has an appropriate environment configured, your help would be greatly appreciated for a quick smoke test.

The Dynamic Dimension Defaults Community Module has not yet been tested. If anyone has an appropriate environment configured, your help would be greatly appreciated for a quick smoke test.

Hi,
just a quick addendum, I know that the “on/off” buttons in the jms clustering plugin config are not working, but
should not be too hard to fix, the aggregating, key and dynamic dymensions plugins do not actually require
specific enviroment, I have some familiarity with them but did not have enough time to check them.

Hopefully I can do some during the weekend about those, but yeah, generally speaking I’m feeling good about
merging back to the master branch.

Cheers

I haven't done any testing (beyond some mid-week compilation), so I can't
assess the state. I note that the 2.9 beta is due in about 4 weeks, and 2.9.0
release about 8 weeks from now.

Are the sprint leads happy that there is enough time / effort available in that
time to get a merged wicket 7 trunk to where we can met those dates
(potentially with some less-critical extensions held back to 2.9.1)? If so, +1
on the merge from me.

The alternative is keeping the branch alive / mergeable until after March,
which seems like a lot of grunt work, and will obviously delay the general
release of the results of the wicket7 sprint until around September. That
seems worse to me.

Brad

Hi Andrea,

Out of curiosity, is there a layer in the release/data which can be used to exercise the dyndimension plugin? If so, we might be able to click around some. Otherwise, we’ll pencil in your name next to that module.

Thanks,

Jim

Yeah that timeframe is why the sprint was scheduled this week.

It will be merged right away, no chance we are letting this bit rot

+1 to merge on master. This is precisely why we have master. There will never be a better time. If something is broken, users are going to have to start paying attention to beta releases. The only way out is through [from Doom, with apologies to Robert Frost].

I was expecting more visible change and more breakage. I have been testing:
http://demo.geo-solutions.it/share/wicket7-cs/m2/

So far everything is very smooth. I can't believe how much you have done and so well. Great job everybody!

Observations:

- Contact Information / Email might could be claudius.ptolomaeus@anonymised.com to give a helpful bounce to those who do not get the joke. Unless of course someone friendly is actively monitoring <claudius.ptolomaeus@anonymised.com>.

- Contact Information / Address contains "rtertert" which looks like a mistake.

- Small layout problem with Workspace / Settings overlapping the Enabled checkbox (when ticked). I think someone might have mentioned this, but I can't find the report.

Kind regards,
Ben.

It was merged, everyone stayed late and fixed tests broken by fun UI changes.

This was the scene at 6:30 on Friday fixing tests

And this was what we saw from the pub from ares after the merge.
