Hi!
Just to let you know: I had (have) the same problem. The 1.5-Geoserver-Version works fine with Jetty but if I deploy the (downloaded) war-file in Tomcat the service doesn't start! Same problem occurred already with the experimental old 1.4 WCS version.

We will take a look at it and make sure it is all working for the next release.
Before 1.5.0-official comes out we will also go through a lot of hand testing on several servlet containers to make sure everything is in good shape.

For what is worth, I can build a war from the 1.5.x SVN branch, which
I can use with Tomcat without problems. This was before I heard any
talk about taking configs out of the regular Geoserver distribution.
