[Geoserver-users] 1. Re: HTTP ERROR: 503 (Justin Deoliveira)

Hello Justin,
Thank you for the reply. I have installed GeoServer straight from the .exe that i downloaded. At first, my 8080 port was being used by my Oracle TNSlistener. I didnt want GeoServer to run on any other port than 8080 so I blew out my instance of oracle and will reinstall when I get this geoserver prob solved. Solved that prob and then unistalled and reinstalled the geoserver .exe. Started up the service, ran fine on port 8080. Its just when I go to administrator site that I get the 503 error. Oh, and I am accessing it through http://localhost:8080/geoserver/welcome
Any other ideas?
Thanks ahead of time,
Tom

Hi Tom,

Hmmm... quite strange. My only thought would be that perhaps oracle or some other service is running on port 8080. The reason i say that is because i have never seen GeoServer give back a 503 before.

Can you try changing the port GeoServer is running on, and see if you get a 503 in a different port. There are instructions on how to do this here:

Change it to something like 9090 and then try accessing it from there. Let us know how it goes or if you have problems changing the port.
