I continue my journey to learn Geoserver. So far I can see the maps in the openlayer format as screenshot below. Is that possible I can also show some basemaps like below 2nd screenshot (Imagery or Topographic) as background.
The reason I want to show my team that we can use Geoserver as platform to develop web maps but I want to use this as a quick start. So if there is a basemap that will be great.
That is just a demo of a single layer (the geoserver project using open layers as a library).
You should be able to follow any open layers tutorial to combine geoserver output with one of the basemaps you describe.
If you like you can look at the output that geoserver made and use it as an example of doing a single layer.
The layer preview isn’t intended for any kind of production use. You should probably be blocking that in deployment.
The same open layers functionality is readily available in many demos though. You could also use qgis, udig or similar applications for a quick demo.

If you are using Geoserver 2.19.x then you could add the MapMl plugin which will allow you to drag and drop layers onto a browser window. This works well for a quick map including a base layer
