I have an Ordnance Survey raster sheet (TIFF + worldfile) based on the
British National Grid i.e. EPSG:27700. I've been using this raster with
other OS data quite happily in ArcMap, so I'm pretty sure the files are OK.
I now want to serve this raster file via a coverage data store in GeoServer
1.6.3. But when I configure the coverage in GeoServer, the SRS defaults to
4326. If I click "lookup SRS", it still uses 4326. If I manually change
the SRS field to 27700 then click "Generate" to re-generate the envelope, it
re-sets the SRS to 4326. Whatever I do, I cannot seem to get GeoServer to
accept and use the British National Grid SRS 27700. When I try to view the
data via the GeoServer OpenLayers preview, I get a blank map, although the
XY coordinates at the bottom of the map show OS values i.e. metres from the
BNG origin, not long/lat.
I've also tried GeoServer 1.6.4, but the same problem occurs, plus there's a
bug in the links to the GeoServer SRS list, so I went back to 1.6.3.
Obviously I am doing something wrong here, but can anybody explain to me how
I do this correctly?
Thanks.
Chris

Hi Chris,
is there a prj file along with your tiff and tfw? If so and if the prj contains the EPSG:4326 WKT you won’t be able to change the CRS. The solutions in this case is to attach a prj with the EPSG:27700 WKT or remove the prj at all.
