Hi Dan,

Have you checked the file permissions on the .properties files you
created? If so, I would check the geoserver log files to find out whats
up. Did you try logging in with admin/geoserver to see if that works?

Regards,

Miles

Hi Miles.

Thanks. Everyone has read access to the .properties files. admin geoserver
fails saying username and password not recognised - but it does this if
admin geoserver are specified in the user.properties file. It seems to be
still using the adminUserName and adminPassword tags in services.xml.

The log file has all the INFO stuff from startup but there's nothing added
when I try to login. It seems like it's just not creating an http session
with the browser.

Any other thoughts would be much appreciated. Dan

I've just tried redeploying from the war file and get the same problem
(without using my saved data directory for configuration.

The admin console appears with login on the right side but as soon as I
click anything logout appears. Interestingly I can go straight to the admin
page to clear memory locks etc but I can't get into the configuration pages
and clicking logout doesn't do anything atall.

Hum, can you have a look into the current data dir, log subdirectory, and see if you can spot anything interesting in the log files?
Cheers
Andrea

Hi Andrea. I've looked in the logs but there's nothing appearing when I log
in. Which log settings do I need to change to get more data out for the
admin console? Thanks. Dan

Errors should be logged anyways, so there is no log setting that would
help. I just don't understand what's wrong... what web container
are you using? Is it configured in a specific manner (e.g., container
managed security for example?)

Cheers

I'm using tomcat 5.5.20. I have managed to get at the configuration settings
by commenting out the security bits in web.xml temporarily so it does appear
to be the geoserver security module that's being used.

Also if I log in as a different user the login does fail but this is
definitely reading the user settings in service.xml not from the
users.properties file.

Thanks. Dan

I've attached the log file. I shutdown tomcat. Deleted the log file.
Restarted tomcat. Waiting for the app to load and then tried logging on to
the admin console. It looks like everything is loading fine and the
featureTypes are all there and being served. I just can't login to configure
them. Thanks. Dan
