Hello,
I am brand new to the list and am fairly new to using GeoServer as well (using version 2.3.4)
I’m currently in the process of trying to serve some fairly large aerial imagery layers for the entire state of Connecticut (USA).
The first layer I broke down into 16 tiles of between 400 and 800 MB each using the “Split Raster” tool in ArcGIS 10.1. The tiles are all TIFF format and have a WGS84 coordinate system. I used the ImageMosaic store to load the layer into GeoServer.
The second layer consists of 2 tiles that are 1.1 GB each. They are also both in TIFF format. I used the ImageMosaic store for these two as well.
Both layers are quite slow to load, and panning and zooming almost impossible. I am not familiar with any of the caching or pyramid techniques, and can’t find documentation that would help a complete beginner understand how to create a cache using seeding (or what seeding even is), how to create an overlay, etc.
If anyone has suggestions about how to speed up the loading time for these layers, I would be eternally grateful!
Kate
