Hi Alessandro,
Take a look at the GOES images you can find at URL:
http://www.gis.ssd.nesdis.noaa.gov/
You might need to play with the raster SLD to get imagery close to what
Google is offering.

Bernard

There are some insanely high res images available from NASA:
http://zulu.ssc.nasa.gov/mrsid/mrsid.pl
Each piece is one UTM zone. Be aware that even for just the US the
dataset will be *huge*. We had an entire set downloaded at one point
and I think it was something like 80+ gigs in MrSID format, which
means in GeoTIFF it would be simply astronomical.
If you don't need to see down to this level of detail, the TrueMarble
images are available for free at 250m/pixel resolution which is double
the best BlueMarble map:
http://www.unearthedoutdoors.net/global_data/true_marble/download
However I found the contrast on TrueMarble to bee a bit high (northern
Africa is simply blinding) so you might want to adjust that in your
SLD. I just went with BlueMarble 500m res images instead.

If I were you, I'd browser here:
You can find very high res imagery, same as used by WorldWind.
