Subject: Creating a second user
To: Geoserver-users@anonymised.com

Hi,

I know this is maybe a simple question but I can't find an answer for
this. So I hope anybody can help me. I got one user running but I need
a second one and this must be possible anyhow.

Thanks,
Jan

Hi Jan,

Actually this is something I have never done and I dont think you can
:). Probably most likely because adding a second user would not be all
that useful since GeoServer doesn't really have any notion of users and
permissions.

There is a single admin user, the point of which is to be be able to
password protect your server configuration. However beyond that there is
no finer grained authentication which allow some users to do more than
others.

And that is for the web application side of GeoServer. On the services
side, there is also no real notion of users or authentication, despite
often being called the missing link of wfs.

So I think the answer to your question is within GeoServer itself there
is not really a way to create a new user. What you can do is use the
authentication system provided by the web container / servlet container
that is running GEoServer.

For Justins suggested workaround have a look to:

I recommend following tutorial:
