Standard upgrade process should be fine. This page doesn’t indicate anything special required between those version - http://docs.geoserver.org/stable/en/user/installation/upgrade.html
Although depending how far back you go, this list thread suggests some issues in some cases when upgrading from 2.1 - http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/upgrade-from-2-1-to-2-4-problems-td5080285.html
