Hi All,
I'm using 1.6 RC1 (about to upgrade to RC2) and I went to set up the data
directory. Once I have set the environment variable, do I just take
everything from the default 'geoserver/data' directory and place it in the
new one? Does this also mean that GS will log to the new data dir instead
of the default one?
Thanks again,
Steve

It depends. If you don't plan to go back you can just point your env variable to the current location of the data dir and you're ok.
If you don't want to take any chances, make an integral copy of
the data dir somewhere else and point the env var to the copy.
Cheers

Hi Stephen,
Yes, that should work. But what I would suggest is that you take your
current geoserver/data directory and move it somewhere external. Then
set GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR to point o it. Then you should be able to unpack
RC2 (or any other subsequent version) and run it without any additional
configuration or steps.
