[Geoserver-users] Data from a webservice

Hi,

Is it possible to use the data, coming from a webservice (GML or XML), as a
datastore?
Or does someone know another solution for dynamic datastores, e.g. data that
is different with each request?

Let me try to explain:
I'm working with data that will change daily, weekly or monthly. I get this
data as GML or XML (i can choose). So is it possible to make a datastore
that does a request to a webservice and receive the data? Or maybe there is
already such a datastore? Thanks in advance.

Can't you just dump your data into a postgis table as it arrives?

Simone.

True. Now i think of it, i forgot something to mention.
With every request the data can be different. It is also possible that a new
request comes when the old request is still being processed. So the
datastore needs multiple threads. Is it still possible to use a database?

Am I right in thinking that there's a contributed 'WFS' datastore module that might work here?

Hi,

I checked the WFS datastore (quickly, not testing), but it seems to me that
it needs a WFS server (running another Geoserver instance?). But then again
how to put my data into the WFS server?

GeoServer is a WFS server, so probably that's not the answer you're looking for (since you're trying to server your data with GeoServer
in the first place).

The suggestion to store your data in PostGIS seems a good one imho,
the database will handle the concurrency and you just have to
register the feature types as new kinds of tables are coming in
(which you can do by creating the feature type xml files and
then forcing geoserver to reload its catalog
http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Alternative+for+reloading+the+Geoserver+catalog)

Cheers
Andrea
