Hello List,
I have a question: Is it possible to map a directory which contains hundreds of orthophoto raster to GeoServer, and it is outside of the GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR path variable?
I have set environmental variable geoserver_data_dir on server, but I need to read data from another file server which is not in the same server. How can I make readable folder outside of default geoserver_data_dir, without any data copying or migration?
Thanks for tips!

Hi Zsolt,
Yes you can do that and IMHO that’s best practice - segregating the GeoServer configuration (which is what GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR actually holds), from the raw data means you can use different backup schedules/procedures for them and keeps them logically separated too.
I don’t have any actual data whatsoever in GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR.
When adding the dataset(s)/store(s) just use the file navigator to look for the directory you put stuff into. You folder should be readable depending on what permissions you’re using, but that’s a operating-system issue.

I didn’t think it was so simple! I can’t try this before.
Thanks again!
