Ah, who knows, none of the developer is working with commercial containers.
Anyways, the demo do require GeoServer to serve some data contained
in the data directory, www subfolder. Maybe WebLogic is setup so that
it disallows servlets to serve stuff directly from the .war or
from the file system? Is there any full stack trace you can provide us?

Did you find http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/Deploy+in+Weblogic ?
