[Geoserver-users] Does anybody have Geoserver running on Websphere

Hi all,

Currently i’m running Geoserver on Oracle AS (oc4j) with a few minor adjustments in the shared libs of oracle. My client wants to use IBM Websphere.

I know from the past that running it on tomcat and jboss is no problem also but have no experience with running it on websphere

So please let me know if anyone has successfully used geoserver on websphere or what problems you ran into.

Thanks in advance.

Yep, I am working with Webpshere.

The biggest difference ist that Websphere requires an IBM SDK.
I have been working the last year on bringing IBM SDK 5 and 6 into supported land for geotools/geoserver. At this point in time there is one minor issue left in a test case which will be fixed soon.

What I have to know

1) Which Version of geoserver

2) Which Version of WAS
If you have access to the machine, change into the bin directory and execute versioninfo.sh or versioninfo.bat, otherwise tell me the major number (5,6,or 7).

3) Which platform (i386, ppc, linux/zOS, zOS)

The best would be to use the newest version of geoserver, this version should include all patches I did for IBM SDK

Since I am working on linux i386 (dev) ,linux ppc, AIX and linux/zOS I can say nothing about Windows.

My advise for the linux i386

Use Websphere 6.1 with the latest fixpack (runs on IBM SDK 5)
DO NOT USE Websphere 7 at the moment, there is a bug in the SDK 6 in the "Bean Introspector" which prevents the web interface from working.

Proposal:
Try an install and check it. I think t will work. If you find errors, please post them on the mailing list including the stacktrace. The best would be to include the word "Websphere" in the subject. If you have to integrate DB2 use the DB2 extension ending with "-ng", You can also ask questions about DB2. I am something like the IBM supporter in the project

Fixing Websphere problems is essentiall for me, because my biggest customer is using Websphere, your problems are automatically my problems too

Hi Christian

Thanks for the quick response.

Geoserver version we plan to use is at least 1.7.4
Websphere version is 6.1
And platform is Windows for dev and linux/windows for production

Greetings back from Holland

Cheers Kris

Hi Chirstian,

I have installed geoserver on Websphere and running into the j_acegi_security_check filenotfoundexception.
I found in a previous discussion there is the need to put an empty file with that name in the webroot directory.

Is this still the case with the latest version of geoserver (currently downloading the latest nightly)
And if so what is meant by the webroot directory

Cheers Kris

the webroot is the parent directory of the WEB-INF directory. There must be a file "index.jsp", for example. Then create an empty file "j_acegi_security_check".

Interesting. Wondering if we can have that file by default or if it

I would propose to add this file for the next version to avoid these questions on the mailing list. Should I open a JIRA.
