Hello,
I have a simple question:
Does it possible to deploy 2 geoserver (with different name) in the same application server?
Does it produce errors, crashes or malfunctioning??
Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,
I have deployed GeoServer 2.3.1, 2.4.4, 2.4.8, 2.5.2 into the same tomcat server. We named them:
/geoserver (2.5.2 as a default)
/geoserver.2.3.1 (for existing deployed server testing)
/geoserver.2.4.4 (for existing deployed server testing)
/geoserver.2.4.8 (for existing deployed server testing)
An issue with this is using an environment variable for the geoserver data dir will force all configured endpoints to use the same directory which can cause problems with the configuration files. Since the format of the configuration can change between versions, you have to allow the default data dir recognition, or setup the web.xml to define the geoserver data dir.
Otherwise, it has worked well for us to test the various deployed GeoServer instances we support.

Ciao Eugenio,
although it should work I would not recommend this approach for
production purposes.
If you are looking for HA you'd better have multiple java processes
running GeoServer which means multiple tomcat instances.
That said can you tell us a bit mroe about what youa re trying to achieve?

Ciao Simone,
thank you for your answer, I’m going to plan the setup of 2 tomcat instances for deploying 2 geoserver.
Actually I’m testing your (geosolution) mapstore/geostore to store and serve maps.
Following the documentation I had some troubles configuring the authorization for geostore/geoserver binding,
for instances I was not able to administer my running geoserver (that I was configuring for such binding) since
the active role service had to be setup geostore user.
So that’s way I would setup a geoserver for mapstore/geostore purpose and leave the mine to serve the already existing
layers.
What about? What do you suggest on this regards?
Regards
Eugenio

Eugenio,
in my experience, multiple geoserver servlets work fine in a single tomcat. Using JNDI it is even possible to share database connection pools between them.
Kind regards,
Ben.
