[Geoserver-users] EPSG 4326 data cannot be published as WMS

Dear all,

can anybody shed some light on the following problem:

Data (either in Oracle or supplied as SHP file) with LAT/LON (WGS 84) coordinates are not published as a WMS (I can assign the EPSG:4326 to the layer). Instead I receive an error like below. The problem appears on Geoserver 2.6.1 and now also on the upgraded version to 2.6.2 from today, but NOT on a machine with Geoserver 2.4.4. There is no difference if I use the user defined projections or not.

Any ideas how to solve that?

Many thanks in advance

Klaus

The installation is (for Geoserver 2.6.2):

CentOS 7

JRE 1.7.0_72 (64 bit)

Apache Tomcat 8.0.15

GeoServer 2.6.2

GT 12.2

GWC 1.6.1

I've just published on 2.6.2 one of the natural earth shapefiles, it's in

So... wondering what's special about yours? It clearly does not happen with
any data in 4326.

Hello Andrea,
thanks for your test and your answer. I´m sure, that this has nothing to do with the data (e.g. QGIS can load the data without problem). It must have to do something with the installation/configuration.
When I assign EPSG:4326 to any WGS84-data geoserver throws the error „javax.measure.converter.ConversionException: is not compatible with m“.
Any idea where I should start to look for?

Hello Andrea,

found the problem:

When publishing data with EPSG:4326 (FORCED) and the „Linearization tolerance“ is not empty, the error is thrown regardless if „Curved geometries control“ is ticked or not.

Mea culpa – don´t ask me why I´ve ticked and used a value for the tolerance for EPSG:4326 data.

Many thanks!!

Klaus

Hello Andrea,

found the problem:

When publishing data with EPSG:4326 (FORCED) and the „Linearization
tolerance“ is not empty, the error is thrown regardless if „Curved
geometries control“ is ticked or not.

Mea culpa – don´t ask me why I´ve ticked and used a value for the
tolerance for EPSG:4326 data.

Oh good, now we know what that is.
I'd still call it a bug, would you mind opening a ticket at
jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS
with steps to reproduce?

Cheers
Andrea
