[Geoserver-users] Error when traing to create layers or stores (Error attaching this container for rendering: [MarkupContainer [Component id = 6]])

Hello group!

i am using geoserver 2.8.3 on Tomcat 7.0.42 with this JVM:

java version “1.7.0_99”
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea 2.6.5) (suse-24.33.2-x86_64)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.95-b01, mixed mode)

What i did: I was playing around with the postgis rasterdata tutorial. While importing the data some error occured which solved wit symlinking some libs from the geoserver lib-dir into the jre-lib/ext directory. After this the import worked. After this i tried to create a datastore on the raster which didnt work. But while trying it must have destroyed something in the data structure, becaus after that i could not create new datastores or layers and the below attached error shows up.

I found some posts on this list which say, that this has to do with errors in the definition of datastores or workspace etc. So my question is, how do i find and the wrong entries and get rid of them? Or has this some other issues?
I tried to delete every single workspace one by one until nothing left with no effort. Deleting the files for the rasterlayer id not help.I updated geoserver from 2.8.0 to 2.8.3, but this did not help. A empty installation works fine, but i dont want to reconfigure everything. Single datastores can be opened by clicking on the name in the layerlist.

Yes, normally this happens as an effect of changing directly on the file
system with the XML files. They are linked via ids, if an ID becomes
dangling you'll get the error
you're reporting.

So my question is, how do i find and the wrong entries and get rid of
them? Or has this some other issues?

There is no easy way I'm afraid, besides locating all ids and checking if
there is the corresponding entry in some other file...
I recently made a commit that might end up giving you better error
messages... it does at least for dangling style references
to styles, I have not tried with the ones to stores or workspaces:

You can get a nightly build from the 2.8.x series and see if you have
better luck
