[Geoserver-users] failed to create SQL server datastore

I downloaded stable version SQL Server extension and put these jar files to

WEB-INF/lib directory. And downloaded SQL Server JDBC driver and put sqljdbc.jar to the same directory.

Then started geoserver version 1.7.2, clicked Config, clicked Data, click DataStores, clikced New. Then did followings

  1. Select Microsoft SQL Server in dropdown list Feature Data Set Description.

  2. Enter an unique id and clicked

  3. Select namespace in dropdown Namespace

  4. Enter sql server name (the sql server is in same machine)

  5. Enter 1433 for port

  6. Enter a database name in the sql server

  7. Enter sa for user

  8. Enter the password for the sa account in sql server

  9. Clicking Submit button gets the screen.

  1. Clicking Apply button gets the screen

  1. Then click Data, click DataStores, select the DataStore just created and click Edit, it prompts a form like to create a new datastore.

I did same thing to create postgres datastore and it is fine.

Can you help to fix the problem?

Thanks

Keith

Hi Keith,

IN step 9, the blue box on the side denotes the error so the datastore is not being set up properly. To me that errors indicates that there could be a version mismatch with some of the geotools libraries. You are running geoserver 1.7.2, did you download the 1.7.2, or 1.7.3 version of the sql server extension?

Hi Justin,

I tried both 1.7.2 and 1.7.3 version of sql server extension and failed for both with the errors.

And SQL Server used is the edition of SQLExpress.

I created DSN to connect to the SQL Server and no problem. That means the sql server is running and the sa account is working.

Thanks,

Keith

Hi Justin,

I’m able to create datastore for SQL Server. But I got “Unable to obtain connection” if entering database name in database field

When creating or editing a datastore.

Other issues were to create FeatureTypes for the datastore created by SQLServer.

I downloaded st99_d00.shp, st99_d00.shx, st99_d00.dbf and imported it to PostgreSQL database by PostGreGIS tool

and SQLServer 2008 database by Shape2Sql.exe. Then I created a datastore for the PostgreSQL database and a datastore for the

SQLServer 2008 database respectively.

I created a FeatureTypes for the PostGreSQL datastore without any problem.

Then I did samething for the SQLServer datastore. When clicking the button Generate at Bound Box: it displayed error message

I copied Min Long, Min Lat, Max Long, Max Lat from the FeatureType created for PostGreSQL datastore and pasted to

the SQLServer FeatureType’s.

Then, I viewed the FeaterTypes by clicking OpenLayers in geoServer at welcome.do. I selected the FeatureType

Created for PostGreSQL datastore, it displayed map well (I got same result by the FeatureType created by shape file directly).

But when clicking the FeatureType created for SQLServer, it shown a screen without map inside

When playing around and tried to find map, I got error message

Can you help for it?

Thanks

Keith C
