I'm not sure I understand why you need to have many OWS services
running. Wouldn't it be easier to add a proxy aggregator that distributes
from a single WMS into multiple client configurations?

Are you sure you can't differentiate your WMS service enough by looking it
through different SLD's? But if you do need hundreds of separate WMS
services then perhaps you could have a look on the UMN MapServer side, I
believe it would be much easier to do there.

We have a need for many more than just a few WMS on one GeoServer,
looking for something a bit equivilent to ArcIMS Map Services in which we
can set up as many as needed for different target data and configurations.
Multiple deployments would be ok if we only had need for a few, but it would
quickly become a management nightmare with dozens if not hundreds required.
We are trying to find options to work around the problem because apart from
a SOAP/WSDL interface for WFS Geoserver provides everything we need and
more.
