[Geoserver-users] Geofence integrated server extension

Hi,

I’m trying to follow those instructions:
http://ares.opengeo.org/geoserver/master/doc/en/user/community/geofence-server/installing.html

Sadly, when doing so, the webapp is missing classes. For example:

Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.googlecode.genericdao.search.MetadataUtil
at java.net.URLClassLoader.findClass(URLClassLoader.java:381)
at org.mortbay.jetty.webapp.WebAppClassLoader.loadClass(WebAppClassLoader.java:366)

I tried to install both current master (2015-09-26) and 2.8.x (2015-09.27) of geoserver and the matching version of geofence-server-plugin, but they both have this same problem.

Then, I went to manually add the missing JARs that I copied from the separate geofence WAR file (dao-1.1.0.jar, search-1.1.0.jar, spring-orm-3.1.1.RELEASE.jar, dom4j-1.6.1.jar, javassist-3.8.0.GA.jar) and I hit a wall. Log4j used by geoserver is version 1.2 and I start needing classes provided by log4j version 2.

Is anybody had success installing this plugin? What I am doing wrong?

Thanks for your help.

The plugin does not have a complete packaging descriptor, so the zip file
does not contain
all the jars it should.
I guess Niels (cc'ed) set the file up (
https://github.com/geoserver/geoserver/commits/master/src/community/release/ext-geofence-server.xml
),
but did not actually try the results :wink:

You should probably add a bug report for this at

Hi Patrick,

I just added some more libs to the assembly of the geofence-server plugin;
please try the new zip after the nightly build is deployed.

I did not find any issue related to the different versions of log4j, anyway I
don't exclude there may be race conditions when loading the log4j jars. Java
packages in the the two log4j versions are different anyway, so there may not
be any conflict issue at all.

The changes are in 2.8.x branch only at the moment. I'll update the master
branch shortly.

   Cheers,
   Emanuele

Emanuele,

I’ve tested those:
http://ares.boundlessgeo.com/geoserver/2.8.x/geoserver-2.8.x-2015-10-08-bin.zip
http://ares.boundlessgeo.com/geoserver/2.8.x/community-2015-10-08/geoserver-2.8-SNAPSHOT-geofence-server-plugin.zip

When unzipping geofence-server, I’ve got this file overwritten:

cglib-nodep-2.2.jar

Apart from that tiny detail, it works perfectly. It’s not yet feature complete (no advanced rules like limit with a geometry), but as I understand it, it will come later.

Thanks and CU.
