[Geoserver-users] GeoServer 1.4.0 released!

I uninstalled everything, deleted old environment variables and restarted
the server.

After reinstalling 1.4.0 again, it now works.

C:\Program Files\GeoServer 1.4.0\bin>startup GEOSERVER_HOME environment
variable not found. Using current directory. Please set GEOSERVER_HOME for
future uses.
The system cannot find the path specified.
'C:\Program' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable
program or batch file.

I did notice that my GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR environment variable was not removed
in the RC5 uninstall. Updating this to the new folder path didn't change
anything. I don't recall if there was ever a GEOSERVER_HOME variable in
previous releases. I don't think so.

Looking at the batch file, it seems like it doesn't really need this
variable anyway. Adding it doesn't seem to help, it just changes the error
message on startup.

Could you run the batch (startup) file from the command line and send us the
log that it outputs?
It will help us better track down what happened.

thanks

GeoServer 1.4.0 is the next major stable release of the series that
brings many new features and improved functionality. The big push of
1.4.0 is the transition of GeoServer's architecture to Spring to be
more programmer friendly, allowing modular addition of new plug-in

services.

The major changes for this release are:
Spring framework
Updated embedded Jetty
More KML styling
German translation
Name extensions for WMS .shp and .pds results On-the-fly log level
changing KML reprojection

Many bug fixes and additional services are in this release including:
request caching, windows service option, and datastores for ArcSDE,
Oracle, DB2, MySQL, GML, WFS, and VPF.

The modular Spring framework opens new doors for developers to create
interesting and exciting plug-ins that are easy to distribute and install.

hmm, interesting. I guess it was using the old data directory from the release candidates, which was a little different (and not totally correct).
I will file a bug report to fix the uninstaller so the environment variable is removed.

Thanks for your help Richard.
