The GeoServer Project is proud to announce the release of version 1.5.0.
This release turns GeoServer in to a complete solution for serving any
type of spatial data, as the primary focus has been support for raster
formats, starting with GeoTiff, ArcGrid, World Images, GTOPO30, and image
mosiacs and pyramids.
The released can be downloaded from:
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOS/GeoServer+1.5.0
Other notable improvements for this release include easier adding of
data through the web admin tools, better support for Google Earth KML,
performance and scalability improvements, and as always a heap of bug fixes.
Many thanks go out to everyone who contributed patches, bug reports and
documentation for this release. An extra special thanks to GeoSolutions
for their incredible work in bring raster and coverage support to GeoServer.
The full release notes can be found here:

So does this mean no bugfixes will be backported to the 1.4 series anymore?
Best regards,
Bart

Correct. Focus has moved to the 1.5.x and 1.6.x branches of GeoServer.
If there specific bugs that people want back ported something can
possibly be worked out, but for the most part 1.5.x will the target for
bug fixes.
