Is security (http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOS/GSIP+16±+Security+subsystem) included in GeoServer 1.6 beta 2?
If so is it possible to set it up to use an Apache htpassword file? I have skim read some of the Acegi docs and can’t find mention of it anywhere?
Does anyone know if uDig supports usernames and passwords over HTTP?

Hi Tom,
Yes I believe that beta2 does include the security stuff. About the
apache htpassword file I am not sure, I would have to look into the docs
to be sure. But my impression is that you can tie Ageci to many
different authentication backends with some spring configuration. But
like I said I am not sure. Andrea is the person to ask about this as he
implemented the security stuff but he is currently on vacation.
As for clients I know that udig does not support basic auth over http...
and I dont really know of any other clients that do either. For demoing
purposes Andrea simply built a username/password field into the
GeoServer sample request page.
So sorry for the lame answers, Andrea will be able to better answer when
he gets back.
