All,

Thanks for continuing to improve GeoServer.

I have tested the .war on Windows using Tomcat 8.5 and OpenJDK 11.

β€œGeoServer Web Service, anonymous access to 11 workspaces, with 2,150 layers.”

The SQL Server and ControlFlow extensions work great.

I think also that the β€œgeotiff files can no longer have spaces in the names” bug has been resolved https://osgeo-org.atlassian.net/browse/GEOS-9969 - Thanks Jody.

It took me a while to work out how to set the specific greetings and URL for each workspace (had to enable work workspace itself, and then go to WMS and select the workspace from the dropdown) but this all works great.

Cheers.

Russell:

That is great news  Is your web service public (do you have a URL to share?)

I was a bit confused by your summary; were you having trouble updating the contact information (welcome / organization name), or having trouble updating the service description (title/abstract)?

Thanks Jody,

Unfortunately the GeoServer I maintain is not public.

My obfuscated summary was more about my locating where/how to populate the service description for the workspaces as I didn’t have any of the workspaces β€˜enabled’. As you may expect I had to edit the workspace and hit the Settings > Enabled checkbox in order to edit the Welcome message for each workspace.

I see now I can enable Services within a workspace and access the title/abstract panels using the workspace picklists within the Services themselves.

It is great to make the geoserver/workspace/ows feature GetCapabilities more obvious in the welcome page. When I first started looking at GeoServer (around 2.14) it was not obvious to me that I could use workspaces to organise layers for the end user.

Your FOSDEM talk filled a gap.

Many thanks.

Russell:

That is great news  Is your web service public (do you have a URL to share?)

I was a bit confused by your summary; were you having trouble updating the contact information (welcome / organization name), or having trouble updating the service description (title/abstract)?

Cheers.

The GeoServer team is pleased to share GeoServer 2.22-RC for everyone to enjoy and help test

You may notice that this release cycle is (checks watch …) a month behind the pace; so we really can use your feedback, bug reports and encouragement.

Check out the announcement for a summary and pictures of the new functionality in action:

  • Natural earth geopackage and workspace
  • User Manual Getting Started updated
  • Welcome Page Updates to layout, workspace and layer selection, and how to customize
  • Startup logging messages and a small fix to date formatting
  • Style format is now listed
  • CSW now has two new extensions: iso metadata, and a metadata editor (with rest api and geonetwork import)
  • Significant improvements in raster rendering performance for those with lots of pixels to push
  • Some community updates (reminder to support RnD)
  • And a whole host of fixes and improvements

Thanks to everyone who tested the 2.22-M0 milestone (and attended the foss4g workshop) - due to your effort this release candidate is much better.

Please reply to this email with the results of your testing - we are especially interested in:

  • The new functionality and documentation? Does it work with your data? Do the docs make sense? Ask questions…
  • Try setting up a workspace with a custom welcome message, contact details and service descriptions and share the picture or URL  Jody Garnett (ie me) are looking forward to seeing what you can do…
  • Please try everything with your data and environment. The development team does not operate on β€œWindows 2022 NT Server Dance remix edition” and we depend on your feedback
  • This is likely the last release that supports Java 8, but tell us what JDK you are using and if upgrading to Java 11 LTS or Java 17 LTS will be a problem for your organization?
  • We really want to know about any regressions - do not think for a moment that any issue is obvious and we will notice (we won’t it is up to you to speak up)
  • The CSW extensions for a metadata editor and ISO metadata support sound fun - if your organization enjoys such things please try it out and give Niels feedback
  • A small thing: the downloads and extensions now include html pages (rather than text files) for readme, running instructions, and licenses. If you spot anything missing or incorrect please let us know.
  • The natural earth sample dataset should be great for demos and tutorials (can move away from topp:states). If you into maps we value your cartographic feedback and improvements are very much welcome.
  • Another small thing: The web service URLs were fixed to follow the standard as part of this update; try out the GeoCapabilities URLs from the welcome page in your fav desktop, web or mobile client.

We do our best to acknowledge everyone who responds during this testing window as part of the final release announcement. This is your chance to take part; give the release candidate a download, let us know how it works, and we can get GeoServer 2.22.0 out the door for November.

Hello,

thank you for the new release!

I have downloaded and installed geoserver 2.22-RC as war. So far there are no problems to be seen.
I am using OpenJDK 64-bit server VM 11.0.16 with Tomcat 9.0.36.

We have 77 layers, 19 lyaer groups and 24 data stores (mostly postgres-osm-data).

That is good to hear Georg thanks for testing. Did you get a chance to try out the new welcome page and changing the appearance for different workspaces?

To be honest, the welcome page has not been very important to me so far. But it looks very clear now. So clear, in fact, that I noticed that two workspaces no longer have any content at all.
