Nope, none of them are, at least officially, our whole build and test
infrastructure uses
Java 6.

That said, I do run GeoServer on Java 7 when I start it for tests during
development,
so while not as well tested, nothing major seems to break.

Our security consultant takes Java 6 as a security risk and recommends using latest Java 7 if possible. Having certification proofed can cause minor problems if using Java 6. On the other hand, if using Java7 breaks Geoserver or causes any problems, the total outcome could be plus-minus-zero..

In our group and in a few others I know, Java7 is the only option, due to security. Either use Java7 or don’t use GeoServer. We’ve been using 7 and Tomcat7 for a year now with no problems.

We would love to officially support GeoServer on Java 7 as well... it's
really just a matter of resources,
right now we don't have enough of them to support a Java 7 specific build
server, but more importantly,
not enough developer time to look into Java 7 specific issues with any
timeliness.

So, who is going to step up and help? Many things can be done, but we need
to find the people that
help making them reality.
Otherwise we are going to have to wait for Java 7 to become the one and
only supported version,
at which point GeoServer will not run on Java 6 anymore. Honestly, I
haven't seen any enterprise
related software (e..g, Spring, Hibernate) make that move yet.

Yeah,
I understand and my question wasn't ment to be any sort of critisism though I don't even belive it was taken that way. I would love to help you but as an ordinary software developer I do not have much power in our company to make this urge to realize.
Maybe we could collect a list of things not working with Java 7?
If I recall right, the xstream-jar isn't working with 7. Am I right? Some more?

As far as I know GeoServer 2.3.x has an up to date xstream that works fine
with java 7.
At the moment I can't remember java 7 specific issues, but it's hard to
know what works and
what does not without a build server infrastructure on Java 7 (see my
gs-devel thread
about using Travis CI, which would offer a basic Java 7 build server for
free)

Hi Ian,
None of the extensions linked to from http://geoserver.org/display/GEOS/Stable work. In all instances sourceforge is giving something like:

The “/GeoServer/2.3.4/geo…trol-flow-plugin.zip” file could not be found or is not available. Please select another file.

The files themselves do exist though:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/geoserver/files/GeoServer%20Extensions/2.3.4/

Regards,
Jonathan
