[Geoserver-users] GeoServer and ArcSDE DataStore plugin with ArcSDE 9.3

hello all,

is anybody running an installation with GeoServer 1.6.x and the ArcSDE
DataStore plugin with an ESRI ArcSDE 9.3 version?

TIA + cheers;

Hi Raif,

not that I know of. I would be able to try if I just had the time to install
it, which unfortunately I'm not sure when that may happen :frowning:
Did you already try? any luck?

no haven't tried it, yet. was hoping that the feedback i'll get on the
mailing list would save me the effort  if i don't get any other
feedback, and i finally try it, i'll post my results to the list.

thanks for your feedback.

no haven't tried it, yet. was hoping that the feedback i'll get on

i now did and it works with some caveats. here are my notes:

* GeoServer is 1.6.4b with the ArcSDE DataStore plugin (btw. the jar is
named gt2-arcsde-2.4.3.jar, while all the other GeoTools JARs bear the
2.4.4 number) running on Feodra 8 and Sun's JDK 6 (1.6.0_10). ArcSDE is
9.3 over a MS SQL Server 2005 running in a virtual machine with MS
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition:

* the ArcSDE Features where created from shapefiles with the shp2sde
command line tool and SDE generated feature IDs (column named "fid").

* from the GeoServer GUI, i was able to create a new (ArcSDE) Datastore
with the appropriate connection parameters, but

* was not able to create new (ArcSDE) FeatureTypes although they were
visible in the list of FeatureTypes. the log showed that the
datastore's connection pool was closed and the datastore disposed.

* creating the feature-types data manually (featureTypes folders and
corresponding info.xml) worked. after restarting GeoServer i was then
able to view the Layers from the Map Preview page.

the connection pool issue could have been fixed in later versions of the
plugin, and the datastore management could have been improved but i
have to use this version of GeoServer.

thanks for your feedback.
