Our group is hoping to use the beeldblad Flash client (http://nlr-gis.nlr.nl/beeldblad/index.html) to access a geoserver WMS. When we tried it out, the client hung and never got anywhere. According to the beelblad developers, the Flash client creates a separate object for each projection returned in a getCapabilities request - which is sizeable for GeoServer! Has anyone else encountered this problem? Is there a way to limit the projections that GeoServer returns?

Currently there's no way to limit the projections GeoServer returns. A few clients have complained about it in the past, but it's generally a pretty easy fix for them. And from a technical perspective it's a bit of a hack just to limit projections on the server so a specfic client can deal with it. I'd recommend talking to their developers about not creating a separate object for each projection returned. When configuring the client it probably has a default projection, so could just look for that on WMS's, instead of making a new object for every one.
If they absolutely can not come up with a solution we can investigate doing so on the geoserver side, but it would likely need a bit of funding or volunteer time.
best regards,
Chris
