[Geoserver-users] GeoServer and beeldblad

Chris,

I think it would be useful to limit the projections anyway.

For instance, if we serve out data in The Netherlands, it makes sense to
include WGS84 and ETRS89, and a few UTM zones, but the rest absolutely makes
no sense. So it would be useful if we could limit them, to protect people
from making ridiculous reprojections.

Also, Mapserver WMS client (through PHP/Mapscript) has a problem with the
string size of the combined SRS values ...

Best regards,
Bart

Currently there's no way to limit the projections GeoServer returns. A
few clients have complained about it in the past, but it's generally a
pretty easy fix for them. And from a technical perspective it's a bit
of a hack just to limit projections on the server so a specfic client
can deal with it. I'd recommend talking to their developers about not
creating a separate object for each projection returned. When
configuring the client it probably has a default projection, so could
just look for that on WMS's, instead of making a new object for every one.

If they absolutely can not come up with a solution we can investigate
doing so on the geoserver side, but it would likely need a bit of
funding or volunteer time.

best regards,

Chris

According

Ok, can you put in a feature request?

Thinking about it, you can just edit the epsg database that GeoServer uses, removing all the unwanted projections.

The hard part is really the UI, both conceptually and actually implementing in our hard to code struts web stuff. Try to include as much detail as possible in how you see this working in the feature request Bart. Per layer/whole server? Select from a list of all possible, or enter the numbers of the ones you want?

Alex, did you ever make progress on your web interface to add projections? Perhaps we could extend that idea to remove things as well. Or to just put some as 'ignore' in the capabilities document...

For a short term fix, we were able to limit the list of projects by editing the epsg.properties file in the gt2-epsg-wkt.jar and re-jaring. And then discovered that beeldblad didn’t have some features we needed.

A side benefit to having a more easily constrained list from a user perspective would be being able to select the SRS for a new feature type from a drop-down instead of having to type one in.

Thanks for the feedback, Joanna

Thinking about it, you can just edit the epsg database that GeoServer uses, removing all the unwanted projections.

Just as an early warning, this can be done in 1.3 and 1.4, but
won't work in 1.5 since we are using epsg-hsql: WCS needs more
complete informations than the ones provided by epsg-wkt.

So we'll have to work on a filtering on top of the CRS data source
sooner or later.
