[Geoserver-users] Geoserver and SQL performance

I am experiencing significant delays in rendering png8 tiles from geoserver when the data is stored in in SQL server opposed to a shapefile.

There are almost 2 million polygon objects (Ordnance Survey Vector Map Local Buildings region).

The SLD is configured only to render the buildings when zoomed right in. It can take a couple of minutes to load and sometimes needs the geoserver service to be restarted.

Any ideas?

Even if the spatial index is there, sql server might decide not to use it
if parallel queries are enabled (because the query planner is just dumb,
I'm afraid).
We added the ability to specify query hints in the data store configuration
in recent versions to basically force sql server to use the spatial index
despite the sql server query planner bad judgement

Hi.

I hope this PPT will usable to you.

It is case of rendering big size vector date by GeoServer with PostGIS.
I think page 25 will help you. There is a SQL for find slow query.
