[Geoserver-users] GeoServer Evaluation

Hi All !

I have to make an evaluation about GeoServer. That’s why I need your help. If you have some times to complete this array…

Thank you.

Best regards.

Sure. Though my email client seems to lose the nice formatting.

Thank you.

Compliance with WMS

What is the version of WMS supported by your product: is it compliant or just an implementation?

1.1.1 compliant (just got the OGC to update their site, see: http://www.opengeospatial.org/resource/products/ for official lists of what's compliant)

What are the requests not supported?

All requests are supported.

Is the GET request supported?

Yes.

Is the POST request supported?

Yes.

Is the SOAP request supported?

No, SOAP is part of 1.3

Compliance with SLD

What are the requests not supported?

The only SLD functionality not supported is RemoteWFS. All other user defined and post and all that is supported.

Is the GeoSYM symbology supported?

I'm pretty sure if the full SLD spec is supported (which it is in geoserver), then it's sufficient to handle GeoSYM

Is the S52 symbology supported?

I don't know what this is, but if SLD can handle it than yes.

Is the APP-6 symbology supported?

Same as above.

Is the MIL2525B symbology supported?

SLD spec seems to say that a bit more work would be required to fully support it.

Coordinates system supported

Is UTMs, Arc, WGS84 supported?

Yes

Geodesic parameter database supported (EPSG, GeoDEF)?

Not sure about GeoDEF - is it in the EPSG database? We support just about everything that has any sort of EPSG code, and include the full database by default.

(this and output formats can be quickly gleamed by looking at the capabilities document)

What are the output formats supported

JPEG

Yes

GIF

Yes

SVG

Yes

PNG

Yes

Others

PDF, KML

What is the input format supported

RASTER

Raster support is still on a branch, but is pretty usable, and will be released relatively soon. The formats supported currently are:

     * GRIB edition 1
     * GeoTiff
     * WorldImages: PNG, JPG, TIFF, GIF with a world file attached
     * ArcGrid: ASCII files
     * GTOPO 30: DEM files
     * ImageMosaic: a mosaic of several images with world file or geotiff files. It is still quite experimental but it is showing good perfomances.

There is also work to integrate GDAL, which will mean support for:
http://gdal.maptools.org/formats_list.html

VECTOR

Shapefile

Yes.

VPF (VMAP, DNC)

Yes. (though not mature)

VRF (AML)

No?

S57 (AML, ENC)

No?

GML2/3

GML2

WFS

Yes.

SGBDR

No?

others formats

Unstable MapInfo support, and PostGIS, Oracle, MySQL, ArcSDE and DB2

3D

NetCDF

I think someone may be working on this

WCS

No immediate plans, but I've heard a few people mention it.

GRIB

Supported.

Performances

Complexity of deployment

Very easy.

Plateform supported

Windows, Linux, Mac, ect. (it's java, so cross platform)

Incompatibility with any client

None that I know of, please let us know if you find any incompatibilities and we'll do our best to fix them.

Compliance with WFS

What is the version of WFS supported by your product: is it compliant or just an implementation?

1.0, fully compliant with all levels (transactions and locking). In fact we are the reference implementation for WFS 1.0, and will be for 1.1 as well (work should be finished by december).

What are the requests not supported?

None.

Is the GET request supported?

Yes.

Is the POST request supported?

Yes.

Is the SOAP request supported?

Not yet, it's only in WFS 1.1

Compliance with Filter Encoding

What are the requests not supported?

None, we fully support Filter encoding against any vector data format.

Would it be possible to get a copy of your final report?

best regards,

Chris

Just a little note on incompatibilities. In my testing I discovered that the WMS support built into ArcView v9.1 didn’t work completely. Specifically, the query function didn’t work.

Oh, that's because ArcView isn't spec compliant
that said, the problem is well known and documented here:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-533

The decision was to get geoserver be ArcView friendly and make the FORMAT
parameter in GetFeatureInfo not mandatory.

Last call for coments, if nobody is again I'll fix that both for 1.3.x and
trunk tomorrow/asap.

Gabriel.

Gabriel,

Yeah, I know ArcView isn’t spec compliant for querying. To be fair though, the spec is IMO rather braindead when it comes to the parameters that are required for a GetFeatureInfo request. It requires a bunch of parameters that are of no use or redundant to the query. :stuck_out_tongue:

BTW, ArcView also doesn’t send a LAYER parameter in addition to the FORMAT parameter. So resolving GEOS-553 alone won’t be enough to get it working.
