[Geoserver-users] GeoServer Imagery Import

Hi everyone,

I am trying to import imagery into GeoServer. I am trying to serve aerial imagery to Google Earth.

So far, I have created the namespace (‘dc’), as well as tried to create a coverage store.

The following is all in regards to the Coverage Store:

My data is 31 ECW/EWW files. I have generated other formats from them using gdal_translate. I created tifs as well as png/png.aux.xml files.

Each file can be upto 64000 in either dimension. Most files are 64000x64000.

I named the Coverage Store dcimag just to match the folder name.

I placed all versions of the same tile into %geoserver_home%/data_dir/coverages/dcimag

In trying to import the pngs/ecws as raster files it says the following:

· "Invalid url: ‘file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.ecw’ for format type:‘WorldImage’.

· "Invalid url: ‘file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.eww’ for format type:‘WorldImage’.

· "Invalid url: ‘file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.png’ for format type:‘WorldImage’.

· "Invalid url: ‘file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.png.aux.xml’ for format type:‘WorldImage’.

In trying to import the tifs as tifs or tiffs it says the following:

· "Invalid url: ‘file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.tiff’ for format type:‘GeoTIFF’.

· "Invalid url: ‘file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.tif’ for format type:‘GeoTIFF’.

To confirm it has found the file, I tried a non-existant file and receive the following error:

· Could not find file: C:\Program Files\GeoServer 1.7.4\data_dir\coverages\dcimag\WDC_06c04.tif. Perhaps location was entered wrong?

Is there another way to organize/retranslate the data that would work?

I hope that this is enough information and that you have time available to help me with my problem.

Sincerely,

Hiren Hiranandani

Hi Hiren,

Are you sure you are specifying the right coverage format when creating the store. For serving ECW see docs here:

http://geoserver.org/display/GEOSDOC/ImageIO-ext+GDAL+extensions

And you will have to choose the correct format, not WorldImage.

Also, one thing to check is to ensure your paths are correct. Specifying the url:

  file:coverages/dcimag/WDC_06c04.ecw

Will resolve to <GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR>/coverages/dcimag/... Are you sure the files are in the correct location?
