Hello Chris,
Thank you for the compliments on my country. It really is a very nice
place to work and to live in.
I live in Itajaí, in the State of Santa Catarina, which is in the
South of Brazil.
You must come one day and meet the South of Brazil, it is a very
beautiful place, with many attractive spots to visit.
About the type of organization, I work in a university, more
specifically in a laboratory that develops systems directed to the
environmental and geospatial areas. Our laboratory has 6 years of
existence, and since then we have worked with MapServer. In the last
2 years, we have worked with Java using MapServer and, right after
that, GeoServer. We created about 40 projects that deal with
MapServer during these 6 years of experience.
Introducing GeoServer in Brazil is definitely one of our goals, and
your idea about translations is very interesting for sure.
Last week we were in an event in Brasilia, III ENUM ([http://www7.univali.br/elis2/enum07/English_Version/home_.html](http://www7.univali.br/elis2/enum07/English_Version/home_.html)). I gave an
introductory course to GeoServer there.
Most of the participants were from the IT area, and liked GeoServer
and how easy it is to use this tool. Everybody was so excited, that
we decided to create a discussion list.
Now about the translation of the web administration tool, I have
already passed it to someone here from the laboratory and I believe
it will be sent to you soon.
Thank you for the reception.
Best regards,
Fernando Quadro

Subject: Re: [Geoserver-users] GeoServer in BrazilHey guys, I just wanted to say that I’m really excited about this.
Brazil may be my favorite country in the world - I lived there for about
six months with a number of friends, on the island of Itaparica off the
coast of Salvador. Pretty much all of us fell in love with the country
and the people. Unfortunately I didn’t get very good at Portuguese, as
I was with too many people who knew the language well, but I really want
to try to learn more and get back there.Where in Brazil are you guys from? What kind of organizations do you
work for?If there’s anything I can do to help support your efforts don’t hesitate
to ask. Any features in GeoServer you’d really like to see, I can
definitely try to prioritize them. I’d also be interested in hearing
ideas on how we can get more penetration with GeoServer in Brazil.
Especially within government, as Open Source for Government is one of
the main goals of my organization. I think the web administration tool
would be a start, and then maybe translations of some of the tutorials?
If there are any data formats that would be good for GeoServer to
connect to let me know. When I was down there I learned about TerraLib
and Spring and the like, about how much effort goes in to them. It’d be
great if we could somehow link up their work with GeoServer, connecting
them more to OGC standards. We’re also happy to partner with organizations who could provide front
line support of GeoServer, where we would help out on the harder bugs
and with new features and the like.So do let me know more of what you are up to, and if I can support you
in any way.best regards,
Chris

Good Morning,
I would like to comunicate about the criation of the GeoServer first
list in portuguese. After the III ENUM
(_http://www7.univali.br/elis2/enum07/English_Version/home_.html_),
event carried through Brasilia, the community created a place to discuss
and to give support about GeoServer in portuguese language.
Then I would like to invite, who’s brazilian, or speak portuguese to
take part also in this list.
