[Geoserver-users] Geoserver new version installation

Hello all,

I figure that in order to solve the CORS problem that I am facing, I'll need
to re-install GeoServer inside jetty. Therefore, since I'll need to remove
it, I better install the new 2.8.0 version with the Platform Independent
Binary.

I'll appreciate very much some advices about the best way of doing that. One
of the questions that I have is about Java. For the 2.8.0 geoserver version
can I install the latest Java? Or I still should use the JRE7?

Please, provide me with any tips you might have for this procedure.

Hi Jair,
the installer version and the bin version both contain a very old Jetty, for which finding
procedures for CORS might be difficult.

I’d suggest you install Tomcat instead, and deploy the GeoServer WAR file into it
instead: it’s the recommended production approach.

I read somewhere that for the new Geoserver version it is possible to use the latest Java. Could you please confirm?

Yes, GeoServer 2.7 and 2.8 should work fine with Java 8 too

Hello,

I installed Geoserver 2.8 copying the war file to C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 8.0\webapps.

It successfully ran and I was able to create workspace, store and layers.

When I tried the layer preview it failed. I couldn’t see any layer including the ones that I’ve just created.

The environment variables are:

GEOSERVER_DATA_DIR C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 8.0\webapps\geoserver\data

GEOSERVER_HOME C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 8.0\webapps

Please see below what I’ve found in the log file.
