I'm not able to connect PostGIS with GeoServer.
During installation I had to make a postgres user.
I assume you have to start the postmaster option with this account ?
I've read the documention; I have trouble with this line:
postmaster -i -D /your/data/folder/location
What is the data folder location ? How does this relate to PostGIS ?
Can someone give me an example of a correct syntax.
thanks
It looks like you are trying to run Postgis on a Linux system. Did you
install from rpm, or from source?

No, I didn't. PostGIS is running on a Windows XP.
During installation I had to make a seperate user account for PostGIS.

If you're running 8.x+ on windows XP it should be running as a windows service, which accepts connections by default, so you shouldn't need to start postmaster manually. Did you try to just make a geoserver connection to your postgis db using your postgres username and password? You might also try with _no_ password.
