Hi,
when I am making a request to geoserver from osgearth,in return it's giving
me tiles in 8 bit rgb image....originally when I stored the image ,it was a
16 bit .tif image in a single band. Now I want that Geoserver must return me
a 16 bit single(or even 16 bit rgb) band image when i make it request....How
can i coerce it doing so?

I think you need first to exactly understand what you are doing.
WMS returns a rendered version of your data, that's why you are
getting a 8 bit image.
If you need to get access to the raw data you need to pass via WCS.
To answer your question, you can't get a 16 bits image out of WMS.
Simone.

Pinki,
just a guess (unless you give meaningful information it is quite
impossible to help you out) you are tryin to expose 16 bits remote
sensing data whose dynamic is compressed towards 0 and you are getting
a black map (which is correct btw) out of it.
Simone.
