I have geoserver (1.6.0) running successfully on my laptop. The database backend is PostGIS. I an running a virtual desktop (VMWare) and I installed PostGIS and geoserver. I backed up my database and restored it on the virtual desktop. However, when I go into geoserver and edit the feature type, I click the button to generate the extent and it correctly generates the extent but it places the lon extent as the lat extent and visa-versa. I've never seen this before but it is a bit troubling to me. Any thought or ideas? I looked at the data in the data base and it looks correct.
Thanks in advance, David

I found my problem. I was using an old version of web.xml that was missing the following lines.
<!-- logging initializer, should be first thing to execute -->
<listener>
<listener-class>org.geoserver.GeoserverInitStartupListener</listener-class>
</listener>

Hi David,
Yeah, this does not initializing of the geotools referencing system to tell it force coordinates to be long/lat or x/y axis ordering.
One thing to keep in mind, is that in GeoServer 1.6 support for wfs 1.1 has been added. In wfs 1.1, the default crs (4326) actually is forced to be in lat/long or y/x, which is different from teh wfs 1.0.
The upshot is that if you do a wfs 1.0 request, then do the same wfs 1.1 request you will see the coordinate values swapped. Just something to keep in mind.

I’m trying it out on Firefox, and I keep getting the following dialog when I zoom in…
The page at http://sigma.openplans.org says:
Unhandled request return Not Found
and when I click the History link I get…
The page at http://sigma.openplans.org says:

Yours truly pointed the new geoserver instance to the wrong data directory before going home on Friday, it's fixed now.
