Hi all,
I recently came across the WPS spec, which I can see myself needing at some
point in the future. There was a reference to an implementation by the
Deegree project. I am currently already in need of complex features support
(I've solved that problem temporarily using an ugly hack in the PostGIS
driver as I really need to do only a very specific non-standard query), which
is being implemented in Geoserver but, if I understand the docs correctly,
has been available for some time in Deegree. Also, again if I understand
correctly, Deegree can call arbitrary functions in its PostGIS backend,
rather than being limited to tables and views like Geoserver, which would
also be useful for me.
On the other hand, I've seen comparisons online that say there isn't much of a
difference, I've heard similar opinions from another developer, complex
features in Geoserver are almost there, I'll probably have to implement some
custom database support anyway (and that's pretty easy with the modular GT/GS
design), and I really really like the Geoserver community.
Just like everyone else, I'm on a tight schedule, so before I spend a
considerable amount of time to get familiar with Deegree, is there anyone who
has recent experience with both and is willing to share some experiences?
Cheers,
Lourens
