[Geoserver-users] Geoserver WMSC turning off resampling

Hello,

I have 1-bit palette raster files. When I view them via WMS I can easily read small inscriptions on the map. But I have to serve them through WMS-C. The problem is that cached tiles quality is bad. I tried to change compression factor and interpolation method in GeoServer WMS config page, but the effect is insufficient. Is it possible to configure geowebcache to turn off resampling and only cut tiles?

I have tried also to convert rasters to 8 bit pallete and quality of that cached rasters is much better. In this situation the problem is that there are gigabytes of rasters and changing pallete can increase size of each file and it will consume too much space on disk.

Another strange situation is that when I preview map in GeoServer OpenLayers, in tiling page and in udig map objects have different size on each of those three views.

Are you serving them as ImageMosaic or simple GeoTiff files?
If you are serving them as ImageMosaic you can force the ImageMosaic to expand the Images in memory, although being 1 bit I am not sure this will make a huge difference.

When I view them via WMS I can easily read small inscriptions on the map. But I have to serve them through WMS-C. The problem is that cached tiles quality is bad. I tried to change compression factor and interpolation method in GeoServer WMS config page, but the effect is insufficient.

Questions:

  • which format are you referring to for WMS?
  • which format are you referring to for WMS-C?

Is it possible to configure geowebcache to turn off resampling and only cut tiles?

This is what GWC does already, at least for WMS-C.

Well, good quality with 1 bit data is difficult to achieve anyway. You can try to add compression for 8 bits data to reduce the size on disk.

Another strange situation is that when I preview map in GeoServer OpenLayers, in tiling page and in udig map objects have different size on each of those three views.

Not sure what you mean here, sorry
